Why Relationship Coaching? describes
the general advantages of the coaching approach to providing relationship
help and building healthy marriages. Why choose this relationship-coaching
program, designed by Dr. David Sanford, over others that may be
available?
Our program -
- Reflects, in its design, Dr. Sanford's understanding
of how people in relationships learn and change and how often
they fail to change, despite the best of intentions.
- Sticks to essentials - the learning, application and practice
of key relationship skills, plus the positive attitudes that
build success.
- Is backed by the site Relationship Library, 600+ practical
"insight and action" published articles written
by Dr. Sanford, covering every important aspect of marriage
and couple relationships.
- Is flexible - comes in individual, couple and group formats
and allows for different budgets and time constraints
- Is innovative – includes personal online journals (blogs)
and a supportive Practice Community of coaching participants
- Is specifically geared for people who are not content with
understanding their problems but are committed to changing
- Is designed around a powerful formula: Insight + skills +
practice + support = learning and change. Details

If counseling has not worked for you
If you have had unhappy experiences with marriage or couples counseling
and despair of finding professional help that brings results,
you will find our relationship coaching program a welcome change.
In our program -
- You won't endlessly discuss your problem or complain
about your partner, while basically changing nothing. Ours is
a practical, action program. You will be working toward positive
change from the beginning.
- You won't get lost in the process and wonder if you
are getting anywhere. Ours is primarily a behavioral learning
program that stresses results. In learning and applying new
skills, you will regularly set target goals for yourself and
evaluate the results of your effort.
- Coaching won't give you a lot of "insight"
but no real changes. In this program, you will focus on "working
skills" – the ones that any healthy relationship
needs. You will practice these skills through assignments designed
specifically for you.
- If you are doing couples coaching, you won't end up
with fewer problems but the same limited relationship. As your
skills increase, you will naturally reach for a richer, more
satisfying relationship. Coaching will help you and your
partner envision that relationship and develop a plan for achieving
it.
- You won't inevitably lose your coaching gains when
you finish active coaching. As someone who has completed at
least the coaching Foundation Program, you can remain a Community
member and maintain your blog for as long as you want.
- In our program, you are not limited to one form of coaching.
You might begin with individual coaching, later change to a
coaching support group, then have sessions of couples coaching,
when your partner decides to join you. Eventually you might
decide to limit your involvement to peer learning in the Practice
Community.
- Our program uses telephone coaching extensively. With telephone
coaching, you aren't limited to professional help
that is accessible from your home.
